Hi,
After I install CHARMM 36b1 in a new pc, I got the following error:

tark@anand2 ~/test/r34e_4c5c/dynamics $ charmm
gethostbyname>hostname problem: check /etc/hosts or /etc/resolv.conf
Segmentation fault

The same version is working in another machine.

I used following command during inatallation:
./install.com gnu xxlarge and it goes fine.

I appreciate any suggestion to resolve this problem.

Regards,
rajad

This is a top hit from the forum's search function. Or you could have used Google. Wasting CHARMM developer time by posting an already-answered question in a random unrelated thread is in violation of several of the forum guidelines, in addition to making a lazy and disrespectful impression (even if it wasn't intentional).

I suggest a forum search for gethostbyname as this is a known issue.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your hints. The host problem has been solved. But, when I am trying to test the installation by a simple run, I am getting the following error.

VOPEN> Attempting to open::/home/rajad/programs/c36b1/toppar/top_all22_prot.inp::
OPNLGU> Unit 10 cannot be opened as /HOME/RAJAD/PROGRAMS/C36B1/TOPPAR/TOP_ALL22_PROT.INP

***** LEVEL 0 WARNING FROM *****
***** "OPEN" not possible.
******************************************
BOMLEV ( -2) IS NOT REACHED. WRNLEV IS 5

CHARMM> read rtf card unit 10
MAINIO> Residue topology file being read from unit 10.
RDTITL> No title read.

I am sorry, I could not find the solution.

Hi Rick,
I also got the error after running the program as follows:

tark@anand2 ~/Programs/test/r34e_4c5c/dynamics $ charmm < test-100mm-10ps.inp > test-100mm-10ps.out

At line 136 of file /home/rajad/Programs/c36b1/source/util/parse.src (unit = 10, file = 'fort.10')
Fortran runtime error: Read past ENDFILE record

Can you give any hints?
Regards

1. Do not use the BOMLevel command.
2. What does the primary error message indicate?
3. For testing you may also want to run the tests that come with the program.

File names with mixed upper and lower case letters MUST be enclosed in double quote (") marks.
